Of course the comments and activity column is indispensable but takes up so much of the modal display. It would be great to be able to close it. I’m using the calculation field to make summary tables and they would be better if I had more screen width.
Alternatively, allow the record to be displayed in full screen.

Among many other improvements, we’ll be rolling out this feature this year as part of the upcoming record upgrade. In addition to collapsing and expanding the activity sidebar, users will be able to choose between three different record sizes, and a full-screen view of a record will also be available.
So your request is already fully accounted for in our mid-term roadmap.
