Tape already allows users to trigger automations after form submission and when records change. However, there is currently no way to attach custom action buttons directly to forms or record edit views that execute a specific automation or function on demand.
This limits Tape’s otherwise powerful workflow capabilities, especially in operational, decision-driven use cases.
Imagine creating an external link automation on the back end and having a the ability to add the button on the front end in the new record with /button
You would be able to select from the available external links, style the button using the predefined Tape options, and optionally set the button to open in a new tab or not.
And actually, while I’m sharing my thoughts -what if instead of a pre populated list of the eternal links, it was just a field you could paste any link into. Then you could add an external trigger link -OR- a link to any other website (external dashboard, your website, another Tape app, …)
Obviously this can be accomplished with images of a button, a link, and some HTML but I do think this would be an easier life and open up some new opportunities for standard users.
I’d love to hear other thoughts on use cases for a dedicated button in the new record.
