Can we edit an existing record with a form using the new Tape Forms?

Hi all,
I thought we could already easily edit existing records (probably using url parameters and/or including record id) but I am kind of blocked with this.

Is that currently even possible?

P.S. The goal is to modify an existing record in a database instead of creating one on submission. Thanks.

I am 99% sure that editing existing records is not currently possible, it is possible to prefill fields within the form based on a current record (Tim showed this). So at this current time I believe you would need to prefill form fields then create a new record (maybe in a different DB) and then on create run an automation that updated the current record maybe removing the ‘temporary’ one as the last step.

That is unless I have missed something of course, which is always possible.

Thank you very much for your reply. This is exactly the same workaround I thought in case this is not yet available. But then we would kind of defeat the purpose because we would have to build many different things and coordinate everything, adding overhead and delays in syncs, effectively ruining the intended simplicity of Tape forms. This is especially true if we want to replace external form providers.

I am really curious about that one and think it is an important one because this could easily provide a shortcut for mobile use cases. This could easily provide a simple way to edit records on mobile (at least all the supported fields) very fast.

@R.J here is an old post of the master how he did his shortcut on mobile.
An honestly I am still using it today. But Forms will definitely open new possibilities…

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, my bad, I’m going to edit the title of this post as I didn’t explicitly mentioned that I am only talking about the use of Tape Forms.

I know we already have external solutions for this (and I actually use these a lot). Here the question was directly intended in regards to the new Forms in Tape in order to take advantage of the integration/simplicity and saving time. I also asked this for all the people that may be thinking about mobile edition and in the search for a fast shortcut/seemingly native that could help reduce friction (a ton in the forum lately).

Many thanks for your help and let’s see if this is actually possible or could be soon with the Tape Forms.
