Improve Unfollow Option in new layout

We’ve found that we are fumbling around when trying to unfollow items in the new record layout. Especially if the default setting is to have the comment panel hidden.

In the new record layout, users who arrive at a record from a follower notification expect to be able to unfollow directly from the record header or follower area.

We click the dots, and see this menu:

Can unfollow be an option there?
And what does the follow indicator in that menu even represent?

When UI shows “Follower: 0” and does not present an unfollow action, which makes it unclear whether the record has zero followers or whether the current user is already following it. This creates confusion and forces users to open the activity panel to unfollow, making the workflow harder to discover and slower to complete.

Hi @CarsonRedCliffLabs,

Thank you so much for your feedback. I can absolutely understand the request :100:

The record menu is honestly not fully finished yet. When we built the new record layout, we moved fairly quickly into the fields, because this is where we still have the biggest blockers for many users and partners. But we will definitely revisit the menu and look into adding useful information and options there as well.

That is why insights like yours are really valuable for us. I also completely understand why the follower count is currently confusing. While testing it again, I noticed that something there does not seem to be fully wired up yet.

On app level, we already have this information available. It shows how many people are following a record, and with a tooltip on hover you can also see who those people are. The idea behind this is to give a quick indication of who would receive a notification when something on the record changes. That can be quite valuable in some workflows, and Podio also had this information. We just did not want to place it as prominently in the new record layout. But if someone really needs that information, it should still be accessible.

Thanks again for bringing this up. We will definitely evaluate these points again. When we revisit the record menu, adding follow and unfollow actions there is absolutely a valuable point to consider.

Best,
Leo
