I am creating a new post in order to get this to bump itself up to the top, but I recognize there have been other posts on this topic.
For some reason, across multiple systems, we are looking at relationship fields and the “title” of the relationship field either says “Untitled” or shows something nonsensical, such as the value of a field that’s far below the top. We have a couple of apps where a single text field or a calculation ID field is at the top and that is what should show, but it’s not consistent across the board.
If we go to the affected related app and twiddle the single text values (such as adding an extra letter and removing it) we can see the value update across many of the relationship views but not all. Regardless, this is not a long term solution. Something is obviously broken here, it’s causing a lot of confusion amongst users, and we need to finally and conclusively identify what the problem is and solve it once and for all.
We can provide examples, please let us know if this would be helpful.
Thank you so much for bringing this issue back up. We’ve actually been chasing this bug for quite some time now. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to reproduce, it appears randomly and then sometimes disappears again on its own. For example, we were already in contact with @tomaz to get access for deeper investigation, but just when we were about to dig in, the problem vanished there as well.
Would it maybe be possible for us to get access to one of your systems where the issue is reproducible? That would help us tremendously because we’ve already built many testing scenarios, but it seems the bug only occurs with a specific data constellation. We likely introduced it ourselves when we reworked how the title is handled, mainly for global search, sorting, and to prepare for the new record structure, where the primary field (which generates the title) is no longer, as before, the first field by default but can now be freely chosen by the user when creating a new record.
As you said, this situation is far from satisfying. The title is a key part of the system, and we want this solved yesterday rather than today. Would it be possible for you to invite either Tim or me to the affected organization and briefly explain in which app it occurs and where exactly the issue shows up? That would help us a lot and bring us much closer to a permanent, robust solution.

I also run into this regularly.
Seeing “Untitled” on related items is (as @Leo stated) not a problem 100% of the time. But I would say it is a problem more often than not as of late.
Certainly there are examples that pop up daily for regular users. Sometimes it’s a mild annoyance, other times it’s a big deal and causes major headaches slowing down the users flow and having to click into several related items to find the desired one.
