Setting a calculation field in date format to null

Is it possible for a date calculation field to return a null value?

I’m trying to calculate the ‘Last Contacted’ date, but if the lead hasn’t been contacted yet, I want the field to remain empty so I can use the ‘Hidden if empty’ option. Instead, it’s showing ‘Thursday, January 1, 1970 · 1:00 AM’ by default.

Can you provide more details?

From what I can guess, you have one Date field and one calculation field (both with ‘Hidden if empty’ option).

I tried adding those two fields and referencing the date field in the calculation. It does not give me Thursday, January 1, 1970 ¡ 1:00 AM when the date field is empty.

Are you using an ‘all of’ date field, and is the field set to date format rather than text?
It’s pulling from a date field in another app, so maybe I’m overlooking something simple.

Basically, I have a date field in the Communications app, and I’m trying to get the ‘Last Contacted Date’ so I loop through the ‘Created On’ dates and the ‘Communication Type’ fields to check if the communication type was outgoing. The calculation works fine when there’s a date, but it returns the 1970 default when there’s no communication.

I’m trying to replicate what you mentioned, but I don’t think I’m doing it as you have it.
