[✅ Solution] Copy Automation to another APP - Thinking about Switching over from Podio

I’m thinking about making the switch from Podio to Tape, but first I need to make sure I can Copy Automations to other Apps. Is this achievable?
I do not see this anywhere. If this can’t be done the migration will be to much of a hassle to make the switch to Tape.

Hi, currently I do not think you can copy automation from one app to another. Would also like this feature.
But you can clone apps with or without data and all of the automations are cloned with it. So maybe a simple workaround that you can use.
We were all thinking about making the switch and honestly we probably overthink it, because this is another level compared to other platform.
For migration you can use Jacquelynmay tools which can be handy and also some partners can help you out.

@tomaz Thanks Yeah I would love to see the copy automation across apps and workspace. It really sucks that you cant do this. I would of made the switch now if that wasn’t the case.

Hi @buildingwealth,

we are really happy that you want to switch from Podio to Tape!

And good news for you! This is actually already possible. You can duplicate automations and then change the trigger app, which allows you to move the duplicated automation to another app.

Here you can duplicate the automation:

And here you can change the trigger app which moves the automation to this app:

This also works across workspaces, you just have to exchange the variables token displayed in red.
If you want to move automations to another organization, you can do this via Workspace or Organization Publish and duplication.

@Leo I guess I missed this one, but it is a time saver! :rocket:

@tomaz, that’s actually a bit hidden. We will offer a move automation option in the future to simplify this.
But actually a real time saver! I often use it myself! :100:

@Leo that is awesome you have me sold. That just put a big Smile on my face

One last thing a major reason I’m switching from Podio. How would I set item specific permissions?

For example, I have a Team Members app that’s related to one of my Leads apps. This Leads app has leads assigned to specific team members. I want team members to only be able to view the leads that are assigned to them within the Leads app.

How would I go about doing that?

Given this great news, it means I can start migrating today! :slightly_smiling_face:

I am very happy to hear that @buildingwealth! :rocket: :100:

First of all, we have dedicated app and record permissions, so you can restrict individual records or apps at any time.

What you have in mind should definitely be possible via the automations and some code as we have not yet rolled out a graphical action for record sharing, but the API endpoint exists where you can implement such use cases.
However, this is definitely an advanced use case, but some of our users have already implemented it.

Especially @Jason is a real expert in this, he has provided the following showcases.

We also plan to make record permission more accessible and roll out field access with the new record we are currently working on.

@Leo Thanks for the update you guys really have it together. I come from a computer science background so it shouldnt be to difficult to achieve. I’'ll look into Tonis post soon as I get some free time. I’m really looking forward to the switch

“We also plan to make record permission more accessible and roll out field access with the new record we are currently working on.”
I Love  what I’m hearing. What would be really cool would be Record based permissions based on a related Field such as a Assigned Team Member.

@buildingwealth, if you have a background in computer science, you shouldn’t have any trouble implementing your use case
I think you’ll especially enjoy the script action! Unlike Podio, Tape uses JavaScript as a unified coding environment throughout our automations, which I hope won’t be an issue for you. Most of our users who migrated from Podio actually see this as a big advantage, especially since our calculation field also uses JavaScript, providing a consistent development language across the entire system.

And thank you so much for your kind words! A shortcut in the member field for setting permissions is already on our roadmap.

Cheers

Welcome to the party -you are going to be blown away. Tape just works and the team is constantly developing new features based on feedback from us, the users.

My only regret is that we didn’t move over sooner. Almost 10 years in a dysfunctional relationship with Podio. I think you’re going to especially love having real-time updates without having to refresh your browser.

Hi @buildingwealth – welcome to the Tape community! :raised_hands:

I can only agree with @1F2Ns! We spent a long time searching for a real alternative to Podio, and Tape is by far the best Podio alternative we’ve found! :tada:

It’s been such a relief to finally discover a platform that not only matches Podio’s flexibility but also takes things to the next level. So glad to have you here on this journey with us!
