How does Tape handle users across different time zones?
I tested this by switching one of my accounts to EST while keeping another in the UK timezone. When I look at an item with a date and time field, both accounts display the same time.
In Podio, for example, if the time is set to 5 PM UK, an EST user would see it as 12 PM.
Tape uses your browser’s time zone setting, it doesn’t actually use your profile setting. So the only way to change outside of your local time zone would be to use a VPN or other method to change your browser’s time zone setting.
Hey Jacquelyn,
I tried the VPN method.
I had an account in EST timezone and had a VPN on in incognito mode in EST timezone. It still showed me the UK time in the field.
The date time fields in a record base the displayed time off the local machines date/time settings, In this video if you can get past my bumbling around trying to actually get my system to change its time zone you can see the field time changing:

This gif shows it changing back from (19:00 to 18:00) as my local machines time zone moves back to the UK.
I don’t think Tape cares were your internet break out point is (so VPN will change nothing) it purely asks for you system time zone.
I assume when you add a time in the date/time field it checks your local timezone does a conversion to UTC and saves the UTC time to the backend then when displaying the time it does the same in reverse.
This is great and also can cause a few issues in automations if one is working cross timezones and you are not careful.
