What is the default logic for sorting names in a Member field?

I’m trying to understand - what is the default or expected logic for which names appear in the initial ā€˜short list’ for a Member field in Tape?

I can add this as a feature request later if needed…but I first want to ensure that I understand what to expect or if we have any control over the names shown.

Whether in an actual Member field, or in any spot that uses members such as assigning a Checklist Item to a member…there doesn’t seem to be advanced logic in play.

In our use case, the org has 29 Invited users. Initials of these users range (sorted alphabetically) from A.L. to V.X.
Clicking into one of these Member/Checklist assignee fields always shows a ā€˜short list’ of 6 names. There is some minor variability between users, but it seems that all users initially see the short list with 6 names that are not consistently sorted.

The options that my user see’s almost always match a list of people with the following initials, in this order:
M.R.
S.Z.
M.T.
S.M.
N.H.
M.C.

Clearly this isn’t sorted alphabetically here.

In the case of a Checklist Item Assignee, we almost always want the current user to be the one assigned. Users get frustrated when they have to start typing to get their name to appear. Even scrolling through names isn’t an option.

If not sorted alphabetically, what does determine the list of names that appear here? It doesn’t seem to be the newest invited member at top, or else all users would see the same 6 names.
It also doesn’t appear to be tied to any ā€˜recency bias’ of who that user selected last - as that would be a potentially beneficial scenario as well.

So - what is the rule here? And does an account admin have any control over how these results are sorted in their org?
