Mobile App

Hey folks,

Any update on release date of the new mobile app?

With ability to change fields and update status.

@ivica here is a link to the current thread with all of the conversations around the mobile app and records.

If there are any features that you like from other apps/programs, please share them in a comment on that thread so they can be considered.

As for an estimated release date -the Tape Team has not provided one to my knowledge.

I would think that the order of changes/releases will look like this:

  • new records responsive layout design/builder
  • web forms release
  • update to mobile app

Note: This is just an assumption and not official information.

We all love Santa and Santa is good.

I would love to be quiet but I can’t, since seeing what is happening to other known platform, do not want to even hear it’s name… You should lift priority for this one and more people will definitely jump on that wagon :man_shrugging:

^^^ This. All day this.

Honestly, as soon as Tape has a mobile app that can keep records updated, I’m moving my own operations over there. It’s interesting though… I’ve been experimenting a lot with building smaller interfaces and injecting them into the template via calculation fields and iFrames. It looks and works awesome. It can be done with Procfu Mini Apps, your own applications, Jotform/Fillout forms, it all works. AND, the kicker is, these fields show up on the mobile app as well!

So technically, using these workarounds, you can build a template where you can actually do things on mobile, while we’re waiting for the mobile app of our dreams. There are a few of small tweaks that could make it even better right away:

  1. Right now, Tape links open in the browser always. If it were possible to have links open in the mobile app instead, that would immediately improve getting around.

  2. Navigating related items is already possible and SUPER easy, but getting to parent items is still sometimes difficult. The only way to get to items right now is to search or hoping they show up in your notifications. So if focus was going to be put anywhere, having a table view or some kind of list view similar to Podio’s, with a way to access all workspaces and apps, would also supercharge the mobile app’s viability, even without the ability to actually create/update/delete records.

  3. This might be a good long term idea anyway, but having an option in the mobile app to snap to the TOP of the record, rather than always being directed to the bottom for the next comment, would be awesome. This way you could choose where you wanted to end up when navigating to a record. Personally, I’d almost rather navigate to the top in all cases, but others might feel differently.

#1 is really the biggest thorn in my side right now but wanted to throw these ideas out there! Praying there might still be a chance to see something by the end of this quarter!

I did end it up switching from podio … did not even imagine how robust tape is.

I do need Mobile APP … but also believe in developers to make it right like the rest of the platform.

This community build up tape and it is great that @Leo @Tim and other folks are involved here. Like the other guys that try to help.

Hopefully Mobile app will be soon… Fingers crossed.

Hi @ivica, @1F2Ns, @tomaz, and @andrew.cranston,

First of all, a huge thank you for your kind words and creative ideas for the mobile app - we truly appreciate your input!

We’re working hard to release the improved mobile app, forms, and new record as soon as possible. While we’ve made better progress than expected, the scope has expanded during development due to feature requests and foundational enhancements that needed to be considered early on, as they wouldn’t be feasible as add-ons later.

One example is the introduction of multiple record layouts, allowing users to work with dedicated records for mobile, desktop or creation. This will significantly enhance almost every use case, though it requires additional development time. Additionally, over the past few months, we’ve onboarded several major customers and proactively invested in our infrastructure to ensure speed and reliability. While these efforts have affected our original timeline, they ultimately strengthen the platform for everyone using Tape.

However, @andrew.cranston’s post gave us an idea that might allow us to release interim results sooner. We are currently evaluating the possibility of leveraging the forms we’re developing to enable mobile record creation and editing. This approach would allow us to deliver an earlier solution, as we wouldn’t need all field types completed before rollout - we could progressively unlock them week by week as development progresses.

Once the proof of concept is validated and we gain further insights, I’ll provide an update here.

Thanks again for your trust and support!

Best regards,
Leo

Oh shit! That’s super cool @Leo. What an interesting and creative solution. A beta app “pre-release” would allow key players to flush out bugs and provide feedback in real time.

Of course, I know a few people who would love to help take it for a ride when it’s ready. Myself included.

This is amazing to see the efforts towards mobile being pushed harder and harder!

Just to add to the conversation, I wonder if some deep linking (android) or url schemes (ios) could help with @andrew.cranston #1:

In this regard, maybe giving the user the ability to point a given link to the app or not depending on the workflow could be useful.

Also as a side note, I really think that some copy of the desktop’s search functionality in mobile could be game changer. If this can’t be quickly implemented or copied, at least some sort of app filtering would be super helpful. Maybe some kind of search operators in the search bar could make it.

Then conditional logic for field visibility (as mentioned in previous posts) could really help organize the layouts or what to show when.

Thanks a lot for all the efforts!!!
