🆕 Reference badges

We are currently working on a new relation field as part of the new record experience.

While this is still in progress, we’ve now released reference badges for the current record.
Reference badges are available today for outgoing relations. What does this mean?
When you add a record using a relation field, the connected records now appear as small reference badges inside the relation field.

Each reference badge can show useful information from the related record.
You can choose which fields are visible inside each reference badge.
This helps you see the most important information at a glance, without opening the related record.

One important thing to know
The setup for reference badges is done on the app where the relation field is created.
This means the same record can look different in different apps, depending on what information you want to show. More flexibility. Better context.

Update: Reference badges support quick actions too:

  • Change select field options directly from the badge
  • Click on fields like link, email, or address to interact instantly
  • Click the App or Workspace name at the bottom of the badge to navigate there
  • On hover over the timestamp in the bottom left, a tooltip shows who created and last edited the record, and when

If you have ideas or feedback for the new relation field in the new record experience, now is the perfect time to share them. Join the discussion here: Relation field feature request — Now’s the right time ✨

One question on this…when I first tested I was able to change a category field directly from the reference badge without having to open the item…and that’s awesome!
But today I tried setting another single select field to do the same and it wouldn’t work. Are there rules around which category fields can/can’t be edited via reference badge?

This is cool and quite useful. I wanted a way to pick the fields that is shown in references. Thanks, team.

Hi @CarsonRedCliffLabs

thanks a lot for flagging this!

You’re absolutely right. We released this a bit too quickly and accidentally introduced a regression. Editing a category field directly from the reference badge worked before, then briefly stopped working, and is now working again.

I’ve also updated the post with a video and a short overview of the quick actions available in reference badges.

Thanks again for reporting this, and have a great day!

Best,
Leo

Hi @Thaha,

thanks a lot for the feedback!

Selecting which fields are shown in references is already possible. This can be configured directly on the respective Relation field. See the video above for a quick walkthrough.

Thanks again and have a great day!
