Update and Add items through mobile - how are you doing it?

So I’m knew to Tape and loving it so far. I’ve got tons of Podio experience and the transition has been fairly seamless. I am running into a bit of a situation though. The app I’m building out would benefit greatly if I could give the user the ability to update and add records through a mobile device. The mobile app is nice for searching the records but from what I’m reading the ability to edit/create records is not yet available. I think it is on the roadmap, but not sure when it will be released.

So my question for you all…how are you giving your users the ability to update and create records on a mobile app? My ideas…

Use a Google form to create new records (not sure if you can update a record this way)
Email to App to create a new record (can you update a record this way?)
Use an automation that would be kicked off by a specially formatted comment…ie…Update: Notes = This is my note

I’ve tried going to the web version of tapeapp.com but the page sizes don’t scale and it’s tough to navigate.

Any thoughts??

Hi and welcome

Mobile is on its way but what do you do before it’s arrival: the options are quite a few depending a lot on exactly what you need and security considerations however, I show one example here:

I quite possibly wouldn’t build it this way today but it is a valid option. You could/can use a tool like Webstudio to build a frontend.

Fillout forms embed really well I know myself and at least one other have used them embedded in records and webpages as a way of creating or editing records on the go.

I know several people that use email to create records. I think I have an example on here somewhere of creating records from a chat app like Twist (you could use slack or Mattermost instead)

I use Apple Shortcuts quite a lot to create records on the go and again I have written a basic walk through on here.

So whilst I am most definitely very much looking forward to an expanded mobile experience there are ways around most use cases sone of them are a little ‘hacky’

So they are in the process of updating the way the records work. As soon as that is released, everything should be mobile responsive much like the dashboard apps.

After the new records come out, some long-awaited features like conditional logic, web forms will be released.

Same for an updated/rebuild of the app.

We’re all awaiting patiently as this is a huge release and foundational change in the way the program works.

You can search for some of the Tape partner webinars on YouTube. Every month the tape team gives updates as to where they are and development. If you search around there is also this month’s webinar on this Thursday. We may get another update.

Hi @scostello,

First of all, a very warm welcome to the amazing Tape community — we’re truly thrilled to have you here :blue_heart: :100:

It’s fantastic to hear that you’re finding your way around so well as a Podio user!

Big thanks to @Jason and @1F2Ns for explaining the current workarounds for creating records despite the current limitations and for highlighting that we’re working hard to close this gap!

In fact, we’re right in the middle of rebuilding all field types from the ground up so they work seamlessly both on mobile and in web forms. On top of that, we’re adding many highly anticipated features from both Podio and Tape users — such as multi-column layouts, a wide range of styling options, and powerful rules that allow for conditional field visibility and much more.

As soon as the first beta release is ready, we’ll make sure to share it here in the community.

Wishing you a fantastic start with Tape! :rocket:

All the best,
Leo
