🆕 Fields: created by/on and last edited by/on

Who created this record? When was it last changed? And who made the latest edit?
These are the small details that matter every day, but they shouldn’t require manual work.

Four new field types just got an upgrade.

  • Created on
Automatically shows the date (and optionally time) a record was created.
  • Created by
Automatically shows the member who created a record.
  • Last edited on
Automatically shows the date (and optionally time) of the last edit to a record.
  • Last edited by
Automatically shows the member who last edited a record.

We’re happy to release the new fields today across the new record experience, Tape Forms, and the mobile app when you create and edit records.

:books: How to get started

  1. Switch to the new record experience in one of your database apps
    • Click the ••• button in the top right
    • Select New Record Beta
    • Click Set as default for you (all details ➔)
  2. Open any record in a database app
  3. Unlock the record via the ••• menu in the top right
  4. Click the + icon in the left margin whenever you hover over a new line
  5. Select Created on, Created by, Last edited on, or Last edited by from the field type list (Help Center ➔)

To configure the fields:
Open the ⋮⋮ menu in the left margin when you hover over a field.

:white_check_mark: What stays familiar

  • The values are system-managed
So they’re always accurate and can’t be edited. You always know who did what, and when.
  • They’re real fields
Use each one more than once in a record, and move it where it fits, even into different columns.
  • Use them in Calculations
Type @ and pick the field, like @Last_edited_on.

:sparkles: What’s new

Created on and Last edited on

  • Date format
Auto, full, long, short, numeric, relative, or a pattern like DD.MM.YYYY.
  • Time
Show or hide it, in 12- or 24-hour format.

Created by and Last edited by

  • Chip style
Name and avatar, or avatar only.
  • Size
Small, Default, Large, or Extra large.

All fields come with:

  • Style settings
Adjust the label display and size, placeholder, tooltip, field icon, and more.
  • Top and bottom description
Add helper text above or below the field, such as context or a short note.
  • Rules (Premium)
Show or hide a field based on other field values.
  • Access (Premium)
Choose who can view the field.
  • Rearranging the fields
Use the ⋮⋮ handle next to the field label to drag and drop fields. Reorder them, move them around the record, or place them into different columns.

Happy building.

Nice upgrade. I always loved created_at fields. probably the most I use is for sorting.
