๐Ÿ†• File field for forms

Weโ€™re happy to bring one of the most requested fields to Tape forms - the file field. ๐ŸŽ‰
Collecting files is part of many forms, from resumes and portfolios to feedback screenshots.
Respondents can now simply click to upload or drag and drop files straight into the form.

Just unlock your form app and simply type /file to create a new file field in the linked database. Or, type / and choose an existing file field to use.

Settings:

Like every other field, the file field comes with all field block advantages - rules, columns to place two file fields side by side, label display options (none, top, left, right, icon only), and much more โž” see here

The file field also introduces its own specific behaviors.
Click the โ‹ฎโ‹ฎ button that appears on hover on a file field to access:

  • Edit style
    • Large drop zone โ€“ enables a bigger upload area
    • Set as paste target โ€“ files or images pasted using Cmd/Ctrl + V will be uploaded to this field. (This option only appears if the form contains multiple different file fields.)
    • Button label โ€“ auto or custom text, with an optional icon
  • View linked field
    • Limit โ€“ choose โ€˜No limitโ€™ to allow multiple files or โ€˜One fileโ€™ to restrict uploads

Unique capabilities & benefits:

  • Multiple file fields in one form โ€“ organize uploads by type for cleaner, more structured responses
  • Cmd/Ctrl + V support โ€“ instantly add screenshots or copied files without extra clicks
  • Flexible drag & drop โ€“ reorder files within the same field or move them between separate file fields
  • Multiโ€‘file management โ€“ select multiple files for batch actions like reordering, moving or deleting
  • Long file names on hover โ€“ to identify full file names
  • Upload progress in % โ€“ see realโ€‘time progress for each file
  • Responsive layout โ€“ works seamlessly in multiโ€‘column forms and across screen sizes
  • Quick upload โ€“ if the form has just one file field, simply drag files anywhere to upload
  • Instant preview โ€“ view common file types like images and PDFs right in the form

As promised, the new fields - like the file field - are immediately available for use in forms.
The file field also works in the mobile app with the current workaround for editing or creating records, and once all fields are rebuilt, all new features of the file field will be fully supported in the upcoming new record experience.

We canโ€™t wait to see the forms youโ€™ll create with the new file field.
