The member field lets you reference people from your Tape organization directly in your records.
Use it to assign a support ticket to a teammate, show who owns a customer account, add reviewers to an approval flow, or keep track of everyone involved in a project.
We’re happy to release the new member field today across the new record experience , Tape Forms, and the mobile app when you create and edit records.
How to get started
1.) Switch to the new record experience in one of your database apps.
· Click the ••• button in the top right
· Select New Record Beta
· Click Set as default for you (all details ➔)
2.) Open any record in a database app
3.) Unlock the record via the ••• menu in the top right
4.) Click the + icon in the left margin whenever you hover over a new line
5.) Select Member from the field type list (Help Center ➔)
To configure a member field:

What stays familiar
A quick look at what you can still do with a member field.
- Notification on add
When someone is added to a member field, they get a notification by default. - Limit
Set how many members can be added to a field. Choose betweenNo limitor1 member. - Display options
Choose how the field is shown in a record.- Always show
- Hidden when empty
- Always hide
- Required field
Users need to fill out this field before they can save the record. - Help text is still available. It’s now called
Tooltip. - Show in focus appears when the app includes a status field.
What’s new
- Add groups to member fields
Member fields can now include groups. When a group is selected, its members are added to the field as individual users, making it faster to add multiple people at once. - Dropdown style
Choose how members appear in the dropdown:DefaultorAvatar only. - Member visibility
Control how much space the field uses in a record. Choose betweenAll,Compact, or limit the display to1,2, or3rows. - Size
Switch betweenDefaultandSmall. - Notify when added
Choose whether added members should receive a notification. Default: on. - Follow when added
Choose whether added members should automatically follow the record’s activity. Default: on. - Default value
Pre-fill the field for new records. Choose specific members, groups, Created by, Workspace members, or Workspace admins as the default value.This also supports the long-requested setup where the field defaults to the person creating the record. - Field access (Premium plan feature)
Restrict who can view or edit the Member field. - Display options
Use the newView onlyoption when the Member field value should be visible but not editable. - Style settings
Adjust the label display and size, placeholder, tooltip, field icon, and more. The full style system is available for the Member field. - Top and bottom description
Add helper text above or below the field, such as instructions, context, or hints for people filling out a form. - Rules (Premium plan feature)
Show or hide Member fields based on other field values. - Rearranging Member fields
Use the ⋮⋮ handle next to the field label to drag and drop Member fields. Reorder them, move them around the record, or place them into different columns.
